NEW HYBERBARIC CHAMBER TO BE INSTALLED ON-ISLAND

Local charity, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Isle of Man (HBOT IOM), has received a grant of £20,000 from Manx Lottery Trust to fund the project manager's salaried role until April 2023, to complete the installation of a brand-new hyperbaric chamber in the Isle of Man

In 2022, the charity received a grant of £35,305 from the Manx Lottery Trust Dormant Assets Fund to support the role of a Project Manager for 12 months. The new round of funding will also be used to contribute towards this salaried role.

Hyperbaric Medicine provides the relief of pain and suffering to individuals. The primary use of hyperbaric medicine is for medical conditions, such as diving incidents, carbon monoxide poisoning and other approved medical conditions by the administration of effective hyperbaric oxygen therapy inside a treatment chamber.

The new chamber, arrived on Island in October 2022 and was delivered to the charity’s premises on Peel Road.

The HBOT IOM team has also been coordinating the remodelling of a new control room,
construction of an emergency room, clinical room, storage/workshop and waiting area which
includes the reconstruction of the front entrance and reception.

Deborah Barron, Project Manager and Director at HBOT IOM, said: ‘We are grateful to receive this
funding from Manx Lottery Trust. When everything's in place and having received all of the necessary approvals we will be in a position to register as an Independent Medical Agency, which will in time lead to the re-introduction of a permanent Hyperbaric Medicine service provision back on the Island.

‘Without this interim funding, the project would have significantly halted and delayed the timescales
set out for the chamber’s installation. On behalf of HBOT IOM, we would like to say a huge thank you to the Trust for their support. Which will assist us to continue with our work.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘HBOT IOM’s new state of the art chamber will benefit Island residents for many decades to come, and the Trust has been delighted to support this momentous project. We wish them every success.’
