MLT Bids Farewell to Longstanding Chairman Sarah Kelly and Welcomes David Christian MBE JP

The Manx Lottery Trust has announced the retirement of Chairman Sarah Kelly, who has served as a Trustee for ten years and held the position of Chairman on two separate occasions. At the Trust’s most recent meeting, held on 13th March 2026, David Christian MBE JP was formally appointed as the incoming Chairman, with Sophie Pearce voted Vice Chairman by the Board of Trustees.

Sarah first joined the Trust as a Trustee in March 2016, bringing with her an immediate enthusiasm, dedication, and integrity that would define her entire tenure. She was appointed Chairman in 2018, a position she held until 2022, before returning to the role in May 2025.

Over the course of her time with the Trust, she has overseen a significant growth in the organisation’s impact, from awarding around half a million pounds annually to distributing over one and a half million pounds to causes across the Isle of Man.

Reflecting on her decade of service, Sarah said: ‘This trusteeship has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. From mental health and carers’ support, to sports, arts, heritage, and community spaces, I’ve seen first-hand the difference that funding can make to people’s lives. I leave with enormous pride in what we’ve achieved together, and full confidence in the wonderful team that continues this vital work. It’s been an honour to serve with you all.’

David Christian MBE JP joined the Board of Trustees in May 2025 and has since served as Vice Chairman, working closely alongside Sarah as she prepared to stand down. David brings a wealth of experience in local government and community service. He was awarded an MBE in 2013 for services to local government and the community of Douglas, was made a Freeman of the Borough of Douglas in 2018 and currently serves as Chairman of the World Manx Association.

Speaking at Sarah’s final meeting, David paid tribute to her contribution: ‘Sarah’s unwavering dedication, integrity, and wisdom have been a guiding light for everyone at the Trust. Her stewardship has ensured that our mission to support communities and change lives has flourished year after year, and the standard she has set is one we all aspire to. As the incoming Chairman, I am acutely aware that I have a very hard act to follow, but I look forward to rising to the challenge alongside such a dedicated group of colleagues.’

At the same meeting, Sophie Pearce was voted Vice Chairman by the Board of Trustees, bringing further continuity and strength to the Trust’s leadership.

Sarah will continue to be closely involved in voluntary life on the Island. The Manx Lottery Trust wishes her every happiness, and thanks her for the indelible mark she has left on the organisation and the communities it serves.
