MANX TRANSPORT HERITAGE MUSEUM RECEIVES £3,500 GRANT FROM MANX LOTTERY TRUST

The Manx Lottery Trust has confirmed that the Manx Transport Heritage Museum has been awarded a grant of £3,500 as part of the Trust’s Community Awards programme.

This funding will support the continued preservation and enhancement of the museum, which is dedicated to showcasing the rich history of transport on the Isle of Man.

The Manx Transport Heritage Museum is housed in the former Brickworks Office of Peel Brickworks, a building dating back to 1928. The grant will help with the removal and renewal of external rendering on the south-facing wall of building and make it water-tight again.

Peter Mylchreest, Treasurer of the museum, said: "This grant from the Manx Lottery Trust is invaluable in helping us preserve the integrity of the building. “We are deeply appreciative of this support, which allows us to continue sharing our history with the community and visitors alike."

The museum, currently under a 10-year lease with Manx National Heritage, features a wide range of exhibits, including a 1964 vintage Peel P50 car and an original Isle of Man Railway Company C1 carriage used in the inauguration of the Douglas to Peel railway service in 1873.

Stephen Turner, Chairman of the Manx Lottery Trust, added, "We are pleased to support the Manx Transport Heritage Museum with this grant. The Community Awards programme aims to enhance community projects and the museum's efforts to preserve the Isle of Man’s transport history play a vital role in our cultural heritage, and we are proud to contribute to its ongoing success."

The Community Awards programme, funded by the Manx Lottery Trust as a delegated partner of the National Lottery Community Fund, offers grants ranging from £2,501 to £50,000. These grants are designed to support projects that make a meaningful difference in local communities, such as the Manx Transport Heritage Museum.
