The Manx Lottery Trust has supported the refurbishment of the Royal British Legion Memorial Garden in Port Erin.

The Garden, which is more than 30 years old, has been made easier to maintain and more accessible for all the community. The renovation has included the addition of new benches and making access disabled and wheelchair-friendly as well as the creation of newly-planted beds which are to be maintained by the local cub scout group.

The official reopening of the Memorial Gardens will take place on 23 June at 3pm, with a rededication by the Revered Christopher E Belfield and reopened by His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney.

Sheila Pilling, Chairman of the Port Erin British Legion which is the largest branch on the Island with nearly 100 members, said: ‘We are very grateful to the Manx Lottery Trust for their invaluable help with this project. Our Branch members are mainly older people so to have assistance in rejuvenating the Memorial Garden means a lot to them all, and to the wider community.’

Sarah Kelly, Manx Lottery Trust Chairman, added: ‘The Royal British Legion plays an important role in life in the Isle of Man community and we’re very happy to be able to help with this project which will be of benefit to many.’
