MANX LOTTERY TRUST SUPPORTS NASEEM’S MANX BRAIN TUMOUR CHARITY

A local charity which offers support to brain tumour sufferers and their families will be able to provide psychological therapy sessions, thanks to a grant from Manx Lottery Trust.

Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity has been awarded a grant of £3,960 which will fund vital therapeutic support for any Isle of Man residents affected by brain tumours.

The charity was registered in 2009 and dedicated to Naseem Pishvaie who passed away with a brain tumour. Since launching, the charity has continued to provide financial assistance and support for local residents and family members impacted by brain tumours.

The therapy sessions will be a joint venture for the charity with Isle Listen, and by coming together they will be able to offer expert therapeutic support to a number of people who have been impacted by brain tumours.

Geraldine Pishvaie, Secretary of Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour Charity, said: ‘The repercussions of a brain tumour aren’t just physical, as the diagnosis or progress updates can mentally affect everyone involved. If a person receives a poor outcome and only has a short time to live, or even when a tumour is benign, this can cause trauma and even lead to PTSD in some cases.  This type of therapeutic support will benefit families affected by brain tumours.

‘All funds we raise, or are donated, go directly to helping those affected by brain tumours, or to support research or fund medical equipment which may help find a cure or improve treatment. By being able to offer therapeutic support to those affected, we hope it will significantly improve overall wellbeing. We are extremely grateful to the Manx Lottery Trust for their support.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘We are pleased to support this worthwhile initiative – Naseem’s Manx Brain Tumour charity provides essential support and improves the lives of many people affected by the illness.’

This grant is from Manx Lottery Trust’s Community Awards Programme. Manx Lottery Trust has been delegated to distribute National Lottery money from The National Lottery Community Fund. To find out more, visit: www.mlt.org.im
