MLT Awards Grant to The Children's Centre to Support Vulnerable Young People
The Manx Lottery Trust has awarded a grant to The Children’s Centre to support its wide range of services aimed at vulnerable young people across the Isle of Man.
The funding will be used to replenish vital resources for therapeutic sessions, including arts and crafts, cooking, and horticulture. These activities are designed to foster a sense of belonging, safety, and purpose for young people referred to the Centre, ranging from as young as four years old to 18 years old.
The grant will help The Children’s Centre continue to deliver high-quality support through its therapeutic practitioners, who provide crucial assistance, including supervised family contact days, prison visits, and wrap-around care for parents and guardians when necessary. The funds will be allocated across three key areas:
- Arts & Crafts Resources: To enhance art therapy and provide mindfulness activities through various creative outlets, such as session support and prison visits
- Cooking & Baking Equipment: To introduce young people to new skills in the kitchen, building their confidence through cooking and baking activities.
- Horticulture Supplies: Including pots, seeds, and equipment for vegetable and herb gardens, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience with growing and upskilling opportunities.
Janet Bailey, Director of Services, at The Children’s Centre, said: ‘This grant will allow us to maintain our high standards in delivering essential services for young people. The support from Manx Lottery Trust will enable us to continue providing life-changing experiences that build self-awareness, emotional expression, and practical skills, all in a nurturing and safe environment.’
Sarah Kelly, Chairman of the Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘We are pleased to support The Children’s Centre. Its ongoing dedication to helping vulnerable young people across the island is vital. This grant will enable them to continue their invaluable work, providing essential therapeutic support and creative outlets for those who need it.’
The grant was awarded through the Manx Lottery Trust’s Smaller Grants programme, which offers straightforward applications for grants ranging from £300 to £2,500, aimed at supporting community initiatives like The Children’s Centre across the Isle of Man.
