DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARDS SCHEME GETS CASH BOOST FROM MANX LOTTERY TRUST

The Ramsey Grammar School Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme is set to enhance its outdoor expedition program, thanks to a £2,000 grant from the Manx Lottery Trust. This funding will be used to purchase much-needed tents, rucksacks, and camping stoves, essential for the successful completion of expeditions by the growing number of students participating in the scheme.

This year, nearly 100 Year 9 students are working towards their Bronze Award, a significant increase in enrolment that highlights the popularity and importance of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme. The new equipment will ensure that all students have the resources they need for a safe and rewarding expedition experience.

Paul Skillan, a representative from the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, expressed his gratitude: “We are incredibly thankful to the Manx Lottery Trust for this grant. The new tents, rucksacks, and camping stoves are vital for our expeditions, particularly as our group sizes continue to grow. This support ensures that we can continue to offer every student the opportunity to complete their Bronze Award with confidence and success.”

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, commented on the award: “We are delighted to support the RGS Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme with this grant. The program plays a crucial role in the development of young people on the Isle of Man, teaching them valuable life skills and fostering a spirit of adventure. The Smaller Grants programme is designed to support local initiatives that make a positive impact, and we’re proud to contribute to this important cause.”

The Smaller Grants programme from Manx Lottery Trust offers straightforward and accessible funding for local groups, with grants ranging from £300 to £2,500. This initiative is part of the Trust’s broader commitment to enhancing community life across the Isle of Man.
