New safety barriers to enhance protection at Jurby Circuit Following Manx Lottery Trust Grant

Safety at Jurby Circuit is set to be enhanced through new and upgraded protective barriers, supported by a grant from Manx Lottery Trust.

A £40,000 award from the Dormant Assets Fund will enable Andreas Racing Association to replace 46 worn Recticel barrier covers and purchase 40 additional Recticel barriers.

The engineered barriers provide improved impact absorption compared with traditional hay bales, offering greater protection for riders, officials, marshals and spectators. Similar systems are already used on the TT Mountain Course and Southern 100 circuit.

The additional barriers will extend modern protection across more of Jurby’s 1.7-mile circuit, supporting everything from public track days and novice participation to competitive racing.

The circuit also hosts major community events, including Jurby Day, which attracts more than 5,000 people, and is due to welcome the Celtic Match Races in September 2026.

Linda Alton Heath, Chairman of Andreas Racing Association said: “Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Jurby Circuit. This funding will allow us to replace worn covers and significantly expand the modern barrier protection around the track.

“It is an important investment for our riders, marshals, officials and spectators, helping us provide a safer environment while continuing to grow participation in motorsport.”

David Christian, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, said: “Jurby Circuit is a valued community facility which brings together competitors, volunteers and spectators from across the Island and further afield.

“The Trustees are pleased to support this important safety project, which will protect those using the circuit and help Andreas Racing Association continue providing accessible motorsport opportunities.”

The Dormant Assets Fund, managed by Manx Lottery Trust on behalf of Isle of Man Treasury, redirects funds from inactive bank and building society accounts into projects delivering long-term benefits for the Island’s communities and voluntary sector.
