New instruments for young players thanks to Manx Lottery Trust grant

Ramsey Town Band is ready to welcome more budding musicians after receiving a grant of £10,370 from Manx Lottery Trust to purchase a new selection of junior instruments and cases.

The funding will allow the Band to replace a number of ageing and worn student-level instruments that are no longer fit for purpose, as well as expand its stock to ensure new players at student and intermediate levels have access to quality equipment. It will also support the replacement of outdated, heavy cases with modern, lighter options, making it easier and more comfortable for younger musicians to carry and transport their instruments.

Salvatore Ruffino of Ramsey Town Band said: ‘This grant from Manx Lottery Trust means we can provide better-quality instruments for our younger members and ensure that new players can get started with the right equipment. It’s a huge boost for the band and for our wider community as we continue to grow and inspire the next generation of musicians. We’re incredibly grateful for the Trust’s support.’

The grant was awarded through the Manx Lottery Trust’s Community Awards Programme, which provides funding for projects that improve quality of life, create opportunities and strengthen community ties across the Isle of Man.

Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, David Christian, said: "Ramsey Town Band is doing fantastic work to bring music into the lives of young people and we’re pleased to support this project. The new instruments and cases will make a real difference to both the comfort and confidence of players. We wish the Band all the best as they continue to develop and inspire musical talent in the north of the Island."

The Community Awards Programme is designed to support Isle of Man charities and not-for-profit organisations in delivering community-led initiatives. Grants of up to £50,000 are available, with awards given across a broad range of themes including community, culture, wellbeing, education and youth development.
