TRUST AWARDS GRANT TO RUSHEN HERITAGE TRUST FOR WARM SPACES ACTIVITIES AND WORKSHOPS

The Manx Lottery Trust has announced it had awarded a grant of £500 to Rushen Heritage Trust.

This funding will support the creation and implementation of Warm Spaces activities and workshops, aligning with the Warm Spaces Initiative which began in 2023. Being run by a dedicated team of volunteers, the centre acts as a focal point for various community activities.

The Warm Spaces initiative aims to provide a comfortable and supportive environment that brings people together, fostering a sense of connection and combating loneliness.

The grant from the Manx Lottery Trust will allow Rushen Heritage Trust will expand its offerings to include Warm Spaces activities and workshops. As part of its efforts to provide a warm space, the centre hosts craft and poetry events, as well as showcasing Culture Vannin films and previous heritage exhibition materials. These programs will now be available to the community every Monday and Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm.

John Quirk, from Rushen Heritage Trust, said: ‘We are passionate about promoting and educating people about the fascinating history and culture of Rushen. Often, visitors are surprised by the rich history of our parish, and that is why our centre holds such significance. The importance of warm spaces became evident to us in 2023, highlighting the positive impact they can have on people's lives - offering a secure and inviting space for social interaction and that’s something we’re keen to continue.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman for the Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘We are delighted to support Rushen Heritage Trust in a project that has already garnered significant popularity. We hope that the individuals attending these sessions will benefit greatly from the warm spaces program, experiencing the positive impact it can have on their overall wellbeing.’

The grant awarded to Rushen Heritage Trust is part of the Manx Lottery Trust's Smaller Grants Programme. Charities and not-for-profit organizations can apply for funding of up to £2,500 through this program.
