MANX LOTTERY TRUST SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT OF NEW COMMUNITY HUB IN THE WEST

A new community facility has been developed at the site of the Tommy Clucas Community Sports Hall at Peel Football Club, thanks to a grant of £50,000 from Manx Lottery Trust.

The sports hall was built in 2013 with monies raised by the Tommy Clucas Memorial Fund, an Isle of Man registered charity set up in memory of local sporting hero Tom Clucas. The brand-new community facility will be named the ‘Kelvin Dawson Community Hub’, to commemorate the charity’s late Chairman, Kelvin Dawson, who tragically passed away last March.

Earlier Manx Lottery Trust grants have been used to support the construction and accessibility phases of the project. The latest round of Manx Lottery Trust funding, which has been awarded from the Trust’s Dormant Assets Fund, will contribute towards the costs of a new kitchen unit, alarm and CCTV system, interactive audio and visual equipment, furniture, sports and activities apparatus and a folding partition.

Neil Cain, Treasurer for the Tommy Clucas Memorial Fund, commented: ‘We have received an overwhelming amount of support from the local community to extend the facilities at the Tommy Clucas Community Sports Hall. A huge range of community organisations and groups use the hall, including various sports clubs, QEII High School, the Isle of Man FA and Manx Sport and Recreation.

‘The new facility can be of multi-use, offering a modern and interactive area for social occasions, educational and sporting activities. From children’s parties and school holiday activities to nutrition classes and sports development courses - we want to create a space that promotes positive physical and mental wellbeing, caters to all ages and interests, where people can come together, form friendships and learn new skills.

‘I’d like to extend my gratitude to Manx Lottery Trust for this generous grant which will help us fund this vital phase of the project.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘The Trust is pleased to support the development of the new community hub at Tommy Clucas Community Sports Hall - a local space that continues to inspire general wellbeing through community engagement.
