COMMUNITY CENTRE SECURES MANX LOTTERY TRUST FUNDING FOR REFURBISHMENT AND TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES

In 2023 Michael District Commissioners embarked on a comprehensive refurbishment initiative of the Michael Community Civic Centre, situated in Kirk Michael, thanks to a grant of £21,682 from the Manx Lottery Trust. This funding was used to replace the centre’s windows, and also pave the way for enhanced community engagement.

In addition to the substantial grant for window replacement, the Community Centre has also secured a smaller grant of £1,945 from the Manx Lottery Trust. This supplementary funding is designated for technology improvements, enabling the purchase of a cost-effective printer and a smart TV. These acquisitions aim to aid Michael residents by facilitating access to government online services and other valuable resources.

Avril Muller, a Michael District Commissioner, said "In the past, attempts have been made to repair the windows, but we received expert advice that doing so could cause negative long-term impacts. Prior to the replacement, the windows couldn’t be opened, and now we are able to ventilate the centre, and therefore assist with the ongoing condensation issues in the building."

This multi-faceted initiative aligns with the Commissioners' commitment to refurbishing the centre, making it fit for diverse community activities and events while respecting its location in a conservation area.

Residents interested in utilising the services provided by the centre are encouraged to reach out to the Clerk by contacting them directly or emailing [email protected].

Stephen Turner, Chairman of the Manx Lottery Trust, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "The Trustees were pleased to support Michael District Commissioners with funding to refurbish their centre, and we hope the improvements will be enjoyed by members of the community."

The combination of these grants signifies a significant step forward for the Michael Community Civic Centre, marking the beginning of both structural enhancements and technological upgrades that will benefit the community at large.
