WARM SPACE SESSIONS HOSTED BY SOUTHERN BEFRIENDERS

A charity based in the South of the Island which helps older people, were able to host ‘Soup and Pud’ Events this winter, a warm space initiative for members of the community.

Southern Befrienders were awarded £420 from Manx Lottery Trust’s Community Warm Spaces Fund, for it to offer a warm space, food and entertainment.

The weekly sessions at Thie Rosien and Reayrt Y Chrink allowed people attending to have a lunch of soup and bread, a pudding and as much tea or coffee as they liked.

Suzanne Geoghegan, Scheme Manager of Southern Befrienders, said: ‘It was wonderful to see new people who didn’t know about us, attend these sessions. We were able to make lots of new connections, which meant lots of member of the elderly community in the South got a chance to stay warm and meet new people, which hopefully alleviated their loneliness.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, said: ‘Southern Befrienders is a lifeline to many on the Island, and we were pleased to offer them funding which went towards their much-needed events.’
