RAMSEY LIBRARY EXTENDED OPENING HOURS FOR RESIDENTS THIS WINTER

Ramsey Town Commissioners were awarded a grant of £2,500 from Manx Lottery Trust to extend Ramsey Library’s opening hours throughout winter.

The library, which is located in Ramsey Town Hall, formed part of a northern network of ‘warm hubs’ for the community, which included the Northern Swimming Pool. The library extended its opening hours on a Monday and Thursday evening from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, with Trust funding used to cover additional resources such as staff overtime, heating, and electricity.

Offering a free warm and dry place for residents, the library’s facilities include complementary WiFi and free access to a suite of PCs along with a range of books, magazines, and newspapers. The library also hosts a variety of social activities for the community which include ‘story time’ sessions for pre-school age children.

Stevan Bevan, Deputy Town Clerk for Ramsey Town Commissioners, said: ‘Ramsey Town Commissioners wanted to create a series of free to access warm spaces for the northern community throughout winter, and thanks to Manx Lottery Trust funding, residents were able to visit either the library or Northern Swimming Pool any evening of the week.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, said: ‘The Trust was delighted to support Ramsey Parish Commissioners in extending its library’s opening hours throughout the colder months, which will provide a lot of comfort to those who may be struggling in the northern community.’
