PEEL ELIM COMMUNITY CHURCH RECIEVES FUNDING FOR WARM SPACES SESSIONS

Peel Elim Community Church facilitated a weekly warm spaces events programme for the Peel community throughout winter thanks to Manx Lottery Trust funding.

The community church received a grant of £2,460 from the Trust to facilitate two warm spaces sessions which took place every Thursday at the church throughout the colder months. This included a parent and toddler playgroup and a session which was open to all ages of the community.

Trust funding contributed to the church’s heating costs and hot refreshments including toast, soup and hot drinks which were freely available to session attendees. The church also offered hampers which included warm items such as hats, gloves, and scarves, to those members of the community most in need.

Sarah Vincent, Pastor for Peel Elim Community Church, said: ‘The church is delighted to have received funding from the Manx Lottery Trust to support our Thursday warm spaces sessions at Peel Elim. With the rising cost of living and the colder weather, we wanted to create a regular warm space open to all members of the Peel community.

‘Along with keeping the church warm throughout sessions, we were able to provide attendees with hot refreshments and warm items free of charge. The funding also freed up the additional resource required to expand upon the social activities we offer - many of which have become a social lifeline for our community. With over 45 families attending our parent and toddler playgroup alone, there is a real demand for these types of events, and we’re very grateful to the Trust for helping us make our warm spaces sessions a reality this winter.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, added: ‘We are pleased to support Peel Elim Community Church with this worthwhile initiative, as these events offered a safe and warm environment which promoted social inclusion and community wellbeing.’
