COLBY METHODIST CHURCH SUPPORTS LOCAL COMMUNITY WITH FREE LUNCHES

Manx Lottery Trust has awarded Colby Methodist Church with funding for it to enhance its ‘Soup Lunch Afternoons’.

In early 2022, the Church launched a ‘Soup Lunch’ once a month from 12pm until 1pm for members of the community, provided free of charge but donations were welcome. The £550 grant from the Community Warm Spaces Fund, has allowed the Church to increase the session to twice a month and also extend its hours to 12pm until 4pm, where hot beverages and biscuits will also be available following lunch.

Jayne Mort, Church Steward of Colby Methodist Church, said: ‘Since launching the ‘Soup Lunches’ earlier last year, we soon learnt how much needed they were for our community. Each month, we’ve welcomed in a regular group of approximately 24 people – and in November we served 37.

‘It’s a shame that these sessions are needed in this day and age, but we’re grateful for this funding which will help us support our community in the best way possible - with some company and a lovely  hot meal! If anyone would like to come along, please join us on the first and third Mondays of each month.’

Stephen Turner, Chairman of Manx Lottery Trust, said: ‘This is a wonderful community initiative for the members of the southern communities, which The Trustees are pleased to be supporting, and we hope they continue to be a great success!’

This grant is from the Manx Lottery Trust’s Community Warm Spaces Fund, which is funded by the Isle of Man Government. To find out more, head to: www.mlt.org.im/grant-programmes/
